“FOREST SPACES“

May 1 2022 - May 25 2022

“Forest Spaces" is a group photographic exhibit in the 2022 Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival, an annual event with a 25-year history of public exhibitions across Toronto.

For hundreds of years, forests and trees have provided creative inspiration to authors, artists, and photographers. Thanks to the ground-breaking research of Suzanne Simard, the world’s leading forest ecologist, we now know that forests are far more than merely a collection of trees, but “are social, cooperative creatures connected through underground networks by which trees communicate their vitality and vulnerabilities with communal lives not that different from our own.” (Finding the Mother Tree, Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest, Suzanne Simard).

The 42 photographic artists in the "Forest Spaces" exhibition each offer their unique perspective on the mysterious and ethereal quality of the intimate world of “forest societies”.

The images on exhibit will be displayed in storefront windows along Queen Street East from Coxwell to Neville Park in the Toronto Beaches east end community, from May 1-25. A map of all store locations and artists is available on this website under Exhibit Locations as well as on the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival website (scotiabankcontactphoto.com).

A closing celebration will take place on Thursday May 26 at the Balmy Beach Club, where the photographs will be displayed collectively. Invitations with details will be extended to registered guests. To register, fill out the Contact Form on the website.
